Dawn CUT
Co-ordinated Universal Time
A collaborative project by Rosita Holmes and Alana Hunt
Spaces change over time, rhythmically like the coming and going of the sun. But at the same time, like the sun, each day remains different yet somehow the same. The intricate goings on of a single day in a single space could well fill the history books of a hundred years, while also echoing the thousand hundred years before it, and in doing so revealing much more about our society than may appear at first glance.
In this vein Dawn CUT forms a beautifully banal celebration of our everyday. Using a very literal cut and paste technique drawing from a series of personal and highly subjective observations by the artists during the fragile moments of dawn the work will form a series of site-specific text based interventions in an effort to unveil those multiple worlds that exist in common spaces over time and form the grounding of our daily lives.
Dawn CUT is a growing collaborative project between artists Rosita Holmes and Alana Hunt. The work will commence simultaneously in Newcastle (Australia) and Delhi (India) as part of the 2008 National Young Writers Festival from 2-6 of October. The work will then continue on in other locations creating a cross section of the differences and similarities both within place and across space.
